Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

Today I had an energy drink, pop tarts, cheese, milk, english muffins, a whole mess of those chocolate-covered fruit juice pieces from Costco that masquerade as chocolate-covered pomegranate seeds, about the same amount of Cheeze-its, and some frozen pizza. So after 2.5 miles I took a break from the tummy sloshing and did 1 mile at 4.5/4% before I finished out the run. I've repented and am going to do better tomorrow. After I stay up all night tonight to finish all the stupid stuff I have to get done.

To me cheese is healthy food. Like milk and yogurt. So I don't really get these ads

Also, my mom and sister joined the blog. Yay! You should go say hi!

I was listening to the debate about those ads on NPR (yeah, I'm a nerd) and I was quite intrigued. I don't understand why they would discourage the use of REAL food before processed food. If you're going to attack something let's get the processed stuff out first, then dig a little deeper into the vegan agenda.

Nice job on the run! Even after a day full of fun food :)

Off to say hi to mom and sister...

cheese can be good. as long as it's not eaten in excess, i agree that it's a healthy food. string cheese is one of the best snack foods out there! i will always disagree with a "never eat this" statement. moderation is key, and the diet needs to be balanced and full of a variety of foods so that you can obtain all the essential nutrients (this is coming from a former vegan plagued with injuries and weak bones).

i also agree with RAD -- the processed food is much more of a concern. which is better...a serving of full-fat, high calorie, REAL cheese, or a low-fat, highly processed, dairy free chunk of soy with added color and cheese flavor?

anyway...i'm passionate about this subject and could continue, but i will spare your blog.

nice run. i will have to go say hi to your mom and sister -- that's really cool!

Allie, we think WAAAY too much alike :) I'm glad someone I admire for their breadth of knowledge on subjects such as this agrees with me. Feel free to continue said rant on my blog :)

Your post made me laugh. Tummy sloshing runs are no bueno. I'm totally in agreement with everyone else on the real vs processed debate. Just don't judge me when you see me drinking a Slurpee or shoving Cadberry Mini Eggs into my mouth as fast as I can.

I don't know...I really love Easy Cheese (cheeze?) and Wheat Thins. :) My biggest problem with the ads and the debate is that, at least for my body, the chunky thighs and jelly belly come after eating too much of even healthy, natural things. I agree that being vegan or cutting some certain food out isn't a fix.

Eric: "I didn't know Allie is a recovering vegan."

he he...yeah, i'm working on it :)

and yes, even with "healthy" foods, it still comes down to calories in vs. calories out. i get chunky thighs and jelly belly from overdosing on pistachios!

hooray for cheese!
