Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

I stopped logging my runs. This semester has been getting worse and worse for me, time-wise. I've had many late nights, I'm about to go into my 2nd all-nighter, and things have been slipping left and right. Running's usually one of the first things to go. But tonight I went to the sojourners run with a friend (Eric's brother's girlfriend), and it was fun. She doesn't run very much so our pace was pretty slow, but that was fine with me since I haven't been running much (I don't know how much I've run in the past few weeks, but it's probably not more than 5 miles total). I remembered (again again) that I like running, especially outside, and even in the cold as long as I'm properly attired and even in the dark as long as I'm not alone.

Started with the sojourners again for their Saturday run. Ran with Eric's brother's girlfriend (ebgf) again - good chats, mellow pace. For part of the time I wished I was running with the group, but then I though, "Self? Who are you kidding? If you could keep up with them for 10 miles, you'd probably have a sucky next couple of days." I was probably right. Plus, I'm still getting over my all-nighter Thursday night and I've got a bummer sore throat.

After writing my FRB post I looked at some people's blogs and saw that there was a super fancy group run this morning with a lot of the local runners I admire. It made me want to do better at running. I don't think I'll ever have a goal of running 20 miles at a sub-6 pace, but I do know I can do a lot better than I'm doing. I'm VERY excited for this semester to be over, and I hope I can remember never to take on this much again.
